Etsy Artist Feature & Giveaway: Glitter Cult

Glitter Cult

Today’s featured artist, Emily from Glitter Cult, describes herself as “an aspiring designer working in corporate America while my husband puts the finishing touches on his engineering degree.” She will be returning to school in a little over a year for a degree in Industrial Design, but in the meantime she dabbles in “Interior Design, Wedding and Event Design, and chic crafts for [her] life and home.”

“For the past year or so I’ve been trying to find a creative outlet for myself. I taught myself to knit, volunteered to design friends’ weddings, redesigned nearly every room in my house, and made small gifts for my friends. At Christmas I did a fundraiser at work for our annual Adopt-A-Family program where I made and sold coffee cup sleeves. That gave me the idea to open my Etsy shop.”

I absolutely love the photography setup here too!

I always am interested in how people are promoting their shops.  Because Glitter Cult is only a little over a month old, this is not a full-time job for Emily just yet, and a lot of artists are in the same boat.  I definitely am, and at this point, I can’t spend a ton of money on advertising that just “may” turn into profit.  Considering that, I am constantly asking others what marketing tools they are using and what they have found effective.  Emily uses Facebook to promote Glitter Cult, particularly advertising her new items there.  Finally, she has a blog via wordpress: Glitter Cult.

“I love making glass bottle oil lamps. They’re so versatile and there are practically no limitations on how one could decorate them.”

Glitter Cult accepts all major credit cards, as well as Etsy gift cards, and ships via USPS 1 to 2 business days following your order date.  Contact Emily with requests for custom orders, and she will create a special listing for you.

Check out Emily’s Facebook page here!

Etsy Artist Feature

Katherine Mendieta Cards & Design

Today I’d like to introduce Katherine Mendieta, a 26 year old Art graduate from the University of Iowa.  She currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband Mitch and just opened up her Etsy shop this February!

“I love designing cards almost as much as I love sending them to friends and family. As much as I love social media, I miss the old school days when snail mail was a bigger deal. So after some friends encouraged me, I opened up shop!”

Though new to the Etsy world, Katherine has jump-started her marketing, posting links and discount codes on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.  Before she moved to Minnesota, she worked at a photography studio and learned “that people are far more likely to trust the word of someone they know, or a trusted blogger they connect with, than an advertisement.”  Because of that, she’s relying on word of mouth and some giveaways to get her name out there.

how cute is this!

When I asked Katherine what he favorite thing to make was, I was not at all surprised with her answer after taking a look at her shop! “Fun, quirky cards that make people smile.”  She also loves doing custom work, so readers, you can keep that in mind too!

My Favorite:

You can connect with Katherine through Twitter and Pinterest, and of course at her Etsy shop KM Cards & Design.

You can also enter the Rafflecopter Giveaway below to win a set of personalized stationary up to a $25 value! The winner can choose their design from any of the sets posted at KM Cards & Design!

Burlap and Lace

I created this treasury earlier today, and it is definitely one of my favorites! I love how the artists feminized the burlap with lace and soft white/cream/beige hues.  Enjoy!

I Really Love Boot Socks

fashion

I’ve never been particularly fashionable.  I mean, I’ve always dressed nicely and in style, but unlike my sister, I’ve never been up with the newest trends.  She, on the other hand, has been a little fashion queen.

first day of school – fall 2012

Ok, so now that you’ve taken a trip down memory lane and seen the evolution of my pretty boring style (but how gosh darn cute I still am wearing it) – you can understand what I’m working with.  I really wouldn’t call myself trendy.

That said, I have recently taken up with a new trend (well, new for me).

Boots.

and

Boot Socks.

My mother roped me into buying some boots after Thanksgiving this year, and I have to say I am really diggin’ the style! Leggings plus boots is a SUPER CUTE look! Add in BOOT SOCKS, and I’m just a trendy little hipster or something. (I’ve never really understood what exactly a hipster is, so there is a good chance I misused that word. I apologize to all you hipsters out there if I have offended you. I apologize to the rest of the world for allying myself with the hipsters.)

Anyway, after my boot investment, I discovered boot socks on Etsy.  I purchased a pair from PeekABootSocks just after Christmas.  I. Love. Them. They are super cute, and I can’t wait to have money to buy some more.  [Speaking of, please visit EvaMDesigns and buy some jewelry so I can buy more boot socks.]  Until then, however, I will sport these awesome accessories:

For Your Tuesday Entertainment

Although Tuesdays are generally better than Mondays, I still have a good chunk of the week ahead of me, which is always kind of depressing. However, I know just how to brighten my day — and yours — today.

Check out these hilarious quotes AnroldDesigns has featured on various paper products — notebooks, journals, cards, even towels (ok, that’s not paper…) They are SO random but SO entertaining.

Uniquely Eva M Designs – NEW Cobalt Blue Sea Glass Necklace

So for awhile I’ve been trying to figure out what my particular “niche” is — I definitely have trouble committing to one creative task alone (jewelry, magnets, cards, sewing projects, etc.) and my shop is certainly a reflection of that.  While the majority of my work is jewelry (both beach glass and beaded), I also have bookmarks, magnets, acrylic paintings, coasters, etc.  And I intend to continue that trend – I’m excited to be moving back north so I can pick up my sewing machine and get busy on some fun fabric projects!

That said, I have also wanted to find that one thing that makes Eva M Designs special.  I’ve been thinking about this for awhile, and earlier this fall I had narrowed that “thing” down to beach glass jewelry.  Granted, it’s still a broad base there — lots of people make beach glass jewelry.  What makes me and my work special?  Well, I think I figured it out.

When I started making jewelry, my focus was on the “young professional” trends I was attracted to as a new teacher — styles from The Limited, Loft, etc.  I still like those styles, and as you can see in my shop, I am definitely still creating those looks.  However, I realized recently that there is little in the world of beach glass jewelry besides pendant-type necklaces, bracelets in linked glass pieces, and dangly or stud earrings.  I want to meld that beach glass world with the “young professional” look I admire.  I want to create necklaces that stylishly scatter beach glass throughout chains, that recreate the big bulky modern — almost costume jewelry — look, using the beautiful pieces of glass I have found on the beach.

Well, this weekend I started this venture! I would like to share with you my FIRST product in what I consider a NEW line of jewelry!

Sterling Silver Cobalt Blue Beach Glass Necklace

Keep checking back at Eva M Designs for new pieces!
